The best of diets

I’m in the process of reading a book called Eat Move Sleep: How Small Choices Lead to Big Changes, and in it, the author suggests looking at diets you’ve done in the past, thinking about the best parts of those diets, and just adopting those parts.  He says, “Identify the healthiest elements of diets you have tried.  Build them in to your lifestyle for good.”

I’ve been thinking about this and the diets I have tried, which are really just 3:

  1. a diabetic diet (when I had gestational diabetes)
  2. Weight Watchers
  3. Atkins

The diabetic diet required a nice balance of carbs, protein, and fat and cut out all added sugar and sweeteners.

Weight Watchers required portion control but allowed me the freedom to still eat the foods I liked.

Atkins reduced the amount of refined carbs and processed foods.

Put these things together, and we’d have a pretty decent diet I think…so maybe the author is on to something.

What are some of the diets you have tried and what are the healthy elements of them?  Please comment below.
